Dear valued members of the community,

The Housing Element Update is in full swing. The City is conducting a series of virtual community workshops that have been well-attended, with valuable input from people who live and work in San Leandro. In case you missed them, recordings of the previous workshops are located on the Housing Element Update website. So far, the City has conducted two workshops: “Introduction to the Housing Element Update” and “Housing Element Policies.” Attendees discussed the city’s housing challenges and possible solutions to address them.

Next workshop: Wednesday, January 19

The next workshop, “Housing Sites and Environmental Review,” will gather input on the housing opportunity sites for the Housing Element Update as well as the potential environmental issues covered in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Please join us on your computer, tablet, or phone for the next workshop on Wednesday, January 19 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. Register for the workshop here.

Join the workshop to:

  • Hear about the Housing Element Update and share your thoughts
  • Provide input on where housing should be developed in next 8 years
  • Learn about the issues that will be analyzed in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR)

Housing Element Update EIR

The public scoping period for the Housing Element Update EIR will be January 5 through February 6, 2022. This is the time when members of the public are invited to send comments on potential environmental issues related to the Housing Element Update. The draft EIR will be available for public review in Spring 2022. Comments can be sent to Principal Planner Avalon Schultz at aschultz@sanleandro.org.

Want to know more? The Housing Element Update website has information on what the Housing Element Update entails, the State requirements that the City must meet, new housing legislation, and information on affordable housing income guidelines. There is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) posted to the website. Please direct any additional questions to Principal Planner Avalon Schultz at aschultz@sanleandro.org.
